The UWI Singers can surely jam! — even when reaching back in memory for material not performed for many seasons! Doubtless moreso when those pieces are among identified favourites: as is Singers Jazz, composed by Godfrey Taylor in Feb 1981.
The Singers is an iconic University of the West Indies (UWI) group that dates back to the 1957-1958 academic year; meaning that members have been celebrating their diamond or 60th anniversary, hand-in-hand with celebrations of The UWI’s own 70th anniversary. Classes started at the university’s founding Mona campus in 1948.
An anniversary exhibit, drawing on a UWI Singers collection recently deposited at the UWI Archives, is still on display during July.
