Sir Alister McIntyre, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI), was a recent visitor to the UWI Museum, and shared a recollection or two about the period when the Cave Hill campus in Barbados was still new.
UWI established a College of Arts & Science in Barbados in 1963, and it became a full-fledged campus in 1967. The college and later the campus served Barbados, the nearby countries of the Eastern Caribbean, and beyond. An exhibition titled Cave Hill @ 50: A Vision Realised has been on at the museum from April through July 2013.
Sir Alister, then based at St Augustine campus in Trinidad, recalls flying the quick hop north to Barbados to teach classes in economics, at the same time as others were flying in from Mona campus, Jamaica to cover other areas for whom specialists were then less available.
